OK, I finally got to B&N this past weekend, and read
most
of This Body of Death. I will admit to reading the ending. Somehow, I was thinking that Azhar(?) and Barbara would be a couple, and with his daughter's mum back in the picture? Hmmmmm.
BTW, Jean Auel's next book will be out the end of March next year. The scuttlebutt is that there will be only 6 books in the series, not 7 as previously thought.

Next year? Good grief - that means I'll have to go back & re-read all the previous Auel books to remember what was happening. And if I recall correctly, "Plains of Passage" was just terrible. I didn't think I'd ever finish it.
I actually read quite a bit, but after reading all the posts in here, I'll just say that I'm probably in the minority in that I like what I call "trashy romance" novels and I snap up everything by Nora Roberts, Barbara Delinsky, Jane Anne Krentz, Debbie Macomber and Sandra Browne. Not much into mystery, crime or vampire books. I just like to read to escape and I don't really care that I can generally figure out the plot in the first chapter (sometimes from the back cover!).
But as I tell people who are not into "fluff" novels, there are obviously lots of people who like them because there sure are a bunch out there!
And wouldn't it be a boring world if everyone only liked 1 thing?

I hear ya. I read certain 'trashy novels' by certain writers. I liked Laurie McBain, but she hasn't written in years!
Plains of Passage was a bit of a snooze at times. There's a whole forum dedicated to Jean and her books, and there's a thread of what we DON'T want repeated in the next book.
Just found out Louise Cooper died. She was a decent writer.

Even though I'm only half-way through it, I just HAVE to recommend the book I'm reading now. It's
THE HELP
, the first novel by Kathryn Stockett.
I think it's one of the finest books I've read in a long time. Set in Jackson, Mississippi in 1962-1963, the story of a white woman, recently graduated from Ole Miss, trying to be taken seriously as a journalist in a world where everyone's main objective is to land a husband; and also the story of two "colored" maids, and how their lives weave together and the stories they tell of the time and place that was the South during the early days of the Civil Rights movement.
That's absolutely ALL i'm going to say about it, because I would like it to unfold for you as deliciously as it's unfolding for me.
Beautiful, beautiful story.

Right now I'm reading a book called "Shadow Chase" by Seressia Glass, it's book two in a series & comes after "Shadow Glass". This is a really great series & ties in great imagination & Egyptian mythology. I'm an Egyptian mythology/history person, so if it has it in the description, I'm definitely going to be interested.
Now of course, this is right now... in a day or two I'll be reading textbooks... yay... NOT.

GB, I will have to look into that story. I am somehow drawn to Egyptian Mythology, also.
Flarika, I just may check out your suggestion, too.

The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak. This was mentioned before, but is worth a second to the recommendation. I just finished it ... and I LOVED it! Very beautifully written.
Water for Elephants
by Sara Grusen. Soon to be a movie with Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, and Hal Holbrook. Great book, and it should be a lovely movie.

I am currently reading the first book in a series called Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. There are currently seven books to this series. The book focuses on two main characters, Claire Beauchamp Randall and Jamie Fraser, and takes place in eighteenth and 20th-century Scotland. In Sept. 2010, the author wrote another book, as told by the main character Jamie Fraser.
The book is a romance novel with a focus on the romantic relationship between the two main characters. The heroine is slightly older and more experienced than the hero. The book could be described as a work of historical fiction with a detailed account of 18th century Scottish clan life. The book could also be considered fantasy with a plot propelled by time travel when Claire journeys from 1945 to the 18th century.

It's been a while since anyone posted here! Isn't anyone reading any more?
I've read a few of P Cornwell's Scarpetta series, but find that her writing has become a bit....'tedious'? Seems like Scarpetta is doing a lot of whining the past few books. Yaaaawn.
Thought the last Jean Auel book stank. I swear she just slapped that thing together to finish the story.

As far as I'm concerned, the bottom fell out on Cornwell when she started writing in present tense. If she did it in an attempt to freshen the series, it failed.

Hi, 'shock! I didn't start reading her books in order, more in a haphazard way, and don't mind what tense Cornwell writes in, really. However, 'something' has been niggling at me over the past few months, and I can't really place it.
Now, I often go to GoodReads.com, to look over what people are saying about new books. I've even gotten into a discussion or two. As I said, I didn't start reading the books in order; just read Unnatural Exposure. Before that, Scarpetta. But when I went to discuss any of the books, it occurred to me: Scarpetta is a whiner, for one, and snobbish. Seriously....Black Bush whiskey, amongst other things? The Brietling watch for Wes? There are a few other grumps, but I don't want to inadvertently tick someone off.
Guess she has a new book coming out later on this year.
Lguy has read the Outlander series, and now it is a TV series. I was never able to watch that, thanks to my work schedule.
