I thought it might be fun to see who is reading what and maybe get some reviews on the books, if they are good, what they are about, and so forth.
I tend to have more than one book going on for at any given time. I know this is odd, but there are certain places I like to read for fun, or a quickie, and than there is my serious book which I like to have enough quiet time to relax with.
The first one I am reading is a light, fun book that requires basically very little concentration on my part.
It is called Trick or Treat Murder, yes I was hoping to get an early start on my Halloween mood.
It is written by Leslie Meier and is a Lucy Stone Mystery.
The setting is a town called Tinkers Cove where everyone is getting ready for a Halloween festival.
While she is doing her Halloween things, cooking, costumes for kids, ect, a bunch of fires have been going on. Yes there is an arsonist running around.
The people in the town are working to turn a old mansion into a haunted house, and Lucy starts to investigate the fires that ended up into a murder when one body was found.
So far it is turning out to be a decent book. A little corny, but cute. There are about sixteen Lucy Stone Mysteries. I think this is my third one.
The other book I am reading when I have the time is a Biography of Kiefer Sutherland. I am quite enjoying this one as it starts out from his childhood and looks back at his ancestry. His grandfather, Tommy Douglas was Premier of Saskatchewan from 1944-1961, and was known as the father of Canada's government-funded medical system. It goes on to tell about Kiefers school years (which he was a brat >:D) lol, He attended seven different schools in ten years. Also how he started out his acting career His interest in hockey, rodeos, his love life interest, and Jack Bauer.
I have to applaud his passion for music. He started an Independent record label company ( Ironworks ) with a friend, to help bands that are just getting started by giving them a opportunity to be able to record their music, be heard and gain some exposure.
I am about halfway through this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys biography's.
So tell us what are you reading.

in my copious recovery time off, i've been re-reading through my favorite mystery series. this summer i re-read, the patricia cornwell kay scarpetta series, the kathy reich temperance brennan series, sue grafton's kinsey millhone, and am just getting started on the janet evanovich stephanie plum books. i tend to like my books a little grittier than cute, so the plum books are a little disappointing after the forensic material, lol. i find that when i re-read a series, i get a better sense of the characters and also discover i usually missed one or two in the chronology.
i've tried to explain to my husband (who prefers non-fiction) the appeal of a series that features re-appearing characters. sometimes it's so difficult to let go of them!
and although i now truly enjoy "bones" on fox, when it first came on, i couldn't watch it. it was nothing like i envisioned tempe brennan or her re-visualized andrew ryan to be. they can call him booth all they want, but we all know--the debut of this season's opener even referred to agent booth as "her cowboy", a dead reference to ryan. i've heard that reichs says that the tv show is modeled after tempe earlier in her career.

I'm glad to know I"m not alone in reading more than one book at a time :ohyea:
I too like to read one so called "fluff" book, just for fun. One that doesn't take all my concentration. Something light to read while cooking dinner or waiting in the car pool lane. Right now it's the latest in the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich but that'll be done tonight (they're books I can read in a couple of hours). I just finished reading the latest Kathy Reichs novel and just like Kiki I was super disappointed in Bones at the beginning but when I stepped out of my "Never judge a book by its movie/TV" snobbery (it's a family curse, since ever since Iwas a kid we were not allowed to see the movie till we read the book) I now find myself enjoying the show with my daughter and she's interested in reading the books so that's a good thing!
I also have a serious novel going. One that I have to think about. Right now I'm rereading the Steve Barry books, currently it's the "The Amber Room". About the missing amber room from Russia that the Nazis supposedly found and restored and then took down and hid during world war 2 that's never been found. I like books about historical myths and legends that are retold with plausible answers. Authers like Edward Rutherford, Douglas Preston.
I also like short story collections to read before bed because I find if I take a novel to bed I get caught up in the book and read much later than I ought to and sleep is a precious commodity, lol. Right now I'm reading Death by Horiscope. It's a mystery collection put together by Anne Perry with stories by a collection of mystery authors that the stories all have a horiscope connection.
I also usually have a non-fiction book going too. Either a biography or some subject that affects someone in the house. I suffer from endometriosis causing chronic pain and my daughter is bi-polar so that leaves a lot of reading to keep up on the latest information to help both of us. I also just finished an absolutely fascinating book on the history of the hope diamond.
As you can tell, I'm an avid reader. Thank god for slot games so i can get reading done. I'm also a rather fast reader. The family laughs at me cause i can multi task, i can read and still listen to all their conversations with each other so i can answer questions before they ask them, read and cook, etc. And if the librarians don't see me for a week it's not unknown for them to call to check in, lol. :hahaha:

Lots of good book ideas going on here. Let see lookies A--Z Sue Grafton, Kiki's Kathy Reich temperance brennan series, which I know my daughter would like, and like cherrylea I will usually read a book before seeing the movie, but that dose not apply to TV shows. (lol)
I have read some of Janet's book to, but not the plum series. Back to the Bedroom, Manhunt, Smitten.
Those ones fall into my fun categorie.
It looks like a trip to Borders is coming up. Seriously I am thinking about getting the Kathy Reich series for my daughter for her birthday. She collects Buffy, Charmed, Supernatural, Angel, Roswell, CSI, 24, and all The Bourne books, so I think she will like those.
